Today I was looking at a newer Scofield that belongs to my mother-in-law. It is entitled Scofield Study Bible. It stated: "Except for this change of title, the book remains, as it was when Dr. C. I. Scofield finished his task. Not one word in Dr. Scofield's notes has been altered, added, or deleted."
On its title page, it is identified as "New and Improved Edition." Supposedly the improvements were in the design and layout of where the notes were placed. It was also indicated that some of the Bible reference information in the New Scofield was used, but none of its study notes. It has an additional copyright notice added for 1996. This Scofield is not the 1967 New Scofield, and its text is not that in the 1967 New Scofield. Except for its new title Scofield Study Bible and its new note layout or format, this Scofield is supposed to be the same to the old Scofield Reference Bible. Both were printed by Oxford University Press in New York.
The KJV text in the Scofield Study Bible differs from the KJV text in the Scofield Reference Bible that I have.
This Scofield Study Bible printed after 1996 has the following renderings in its KJV text as different from that in the brackets which was in the Scofield Reference Bible printed in the 1980's:
Josh. 19:2 or Sheba [and Sheba]
2 Chron. 33:19 sin [sins]
Jer. 34:16 whom ye [whom he]
Nah. 3:16 flieth [fleeth]
Ps. 148:8 vapour [vapours]
Ps. 107:27 wits' end [wit's end]
Matt. 26:39 further [farther]
Mark 1:19 further [farther]
Eccl. 8:17 further [farther]
1 Chron. 2:47 Greshan [Gresham]
1 Chron. 7:1 Shimron [Shimrom]
1 Chron. 5:11 Salchah [Salcah]
Ezra 2:2 Mispar [Mizpar]
Ezra 4:10 Asnappar [Asnapper]
Genesis 25:4 Abida [Abidah]
Josh. 19:19 Hapharaim [Haphraim]
Amos 2:2 Kerioth [Kirioth]
2 Chron. 2:16 floats [flotes]
Deut. 22:3 all lost thing [all lost things]
Deut. 32:8 most High [Most High]
Lev. 7:34 heave shoulder [heave-shoulder]
1 Samuel 17:48 hasted [hastened]
Job 30:6 clifts [cliffs]
Josh. 4:5 take ye [take you]
Prov. 20:29 gray [grey]
Romans 9:9 Sara [Sarah]
Revelation 2:6 Nicolaitans [Nicolaitanes]
Revelation 21:20 chrysolite [chrysolyte]
Mark 1:12 the Spirit [the spirit]
Were these changes and several others were first introduced into a Scofield Bible in 1996 or were they introduced in some other year? Are any of the Scofield's in print today the same in text as the old Scofield that was printed in the 1980's or do all editions of the old Scofield printed today have the same text as this edition with the additional 1996 copyright?
