Sotomayor is a graduate from Princeton University, where her legal theses included Race in the American Classroom, and
Undying Injustice: American "Exceptionalism" and Permanent Bigotry, and Deadly Obsession: American Gun Culture. In this text, the student Sotomayor explained that the Second Amendment to the Constitution
did not actually afford individual citizens the right to bear arms, but only duly conferred organizations, like the military. Instead of making guns illegal,
she argues that they have been illegal for individuals to own since the passing of the Bill of Rights.

To get her interpretation you have to flunk at English...
"Things don't happen together by coincidence, without the hand of God guiding them. Like, say, your ex-girlfriend hunting you down for a date the
minute you give up on love, with an eye on the altar."

I despise people who are incapable of clear thinking.
It's never been clear to me how anyone could conceivably interpret the 2A as anything but an individual personal right. |

Amen folks! The 1st amendment is only as good as the 2nd Amendment.
From the info posted by gconan --- it looks/reads like this person is another in a long line of political leftos who have decided to make the courts/judicial branch the way to pass laws INSTEAD of going through the State Legislatures and the Congress . Ya know... it is interesting how much the Bolsheviks/Communists of the USSR and the National Socialist Party of Germany [ Nazi ] ( 1933-1945) had in common. Both of those governments told people what to think. Both told them that "The State" was more important than God-Church-Family. Both of them practiced very tight gun confiscation / very tight gun ownership rules. Both of those governments had firearms in the hands of the "Secret Police" , regular police , and the branches of the military and the "Intel/Security forces. I would suggest that anyone reading this Thread look up the word "Totalitarianism" on the Wikipedia site. I read it the other day while reading some info about a man who volunteered to fight in the Spanish Civil War (1936-'39 ) and "Viola !" The light bulb went ON!

And this they know all too well. They have to reinterpret the Second so they can do the same with the First. These two amendments stand in their way. If they can change the meaning, and convince Americans that they are right, they can change everything else this country was founded upon. From what I heard, she also believes in legislation from the bench, something that Obama, in his introduction yesterday, denied. |

In a related vein, but over a First Amendment issue, San Diego county is now actually attempting to interfere with Bible study in a private home:

It's hard to say for sure, and no less despicable - and unconstitutional - but it does ring true. I was once sued by a neighborhood association for having a guest park on the lawn on the side of my garage (for about three days). It's no stretch, particularly in Minnesota these days, to imagine a county government stooping to new low levels to drum up extra cash. I hope they sue the county.
