One more question (for the moderators): What exactly is it about this discussion board that continually brings out the kooks, heterodox, and heretics, and causes the remainder of us orthodox believers to waste time refuting over and over again such nonsense rather than making some positive contributions in areas that would be far more important?
Your question is one that has been weighing on my mind for some time, and one that others such as Sawbones and others have echoed in the past. I certainly do not want this board to be a platform for those who are simply "blogging" their views and avoiding discussion, nor a place for outright opposition to Christian doctrine. Where the balance becomes more difficult is with posters who are Christians but persist in clearly heretical variants of various specific doctrines, and this is compounded by the difficulty in sometimes even knowing where to draw the line between what is heresy and what is just differing doctrinal viewpoints. For example, in my opinion, rejection (not questioning) of Trinitarianism is heresy, but two people respectfully disagreeing on eternal security or rapture timing is perfectly acceptable.
This board seems to draw more than its fair share of heterodox posters, and I think that's mostly because we clamp down on them a lot less, as our board rules until now are mostly based on poster behaviour rather than poster doctrine - i.e. such posters get banned quickly on other boards, but are rarely banned here. However, I am willing to revisit and adjust the board's rules to take stricter doctrinal limits into account. What I would like from everyone so inclined, either here or in private message or email, is some feedback and input on how you woul like to see this discussion board adjust its rules and handling of discussion and promotion of heresy on this board, and what limits you think are appropriate.
Thanks,
Brian
