Trouble is, their "chops" are all at fellow Christians. The KJVO bunch are, as a group (irrespective of their type-subdivisions), certainly the crankiest, most backbiting, hash-slinging bunch I've encountered within Christendom. Unlike the stereotyped case of most Christians whose US-THEM concept of the world is taken to relate to Believers-Nonbelievers, the THEM in the KJVO group's US-THEM world is made up of fellow Christians(!), whom they frequently characterize as dishonest, evil, tools of the devil, servants of Satan and other similar slanders.

Prior to the advent of the Internet and the wide availability of PCs, one encountered such folk and their ideas only rarely, at church meetings or in published books and pamphlets (eg., God Wrote Only One Bible, The Eye Opener, both of which I recall from the early '70s). Even among the most fundamental and legalistic of Fundamentalist Christian groups, they were considered crackpots.

More's the pity, they now seem to have a more visible presence, and unfortunately they take up bandwidth on BBs like this one well beyond what the expression of their unreasoning and unsubstantial beliefs deserve. They mostly seem to favor the "proof text" approach to argument, and often post endless and boring lists of Bible quotations and citations from other sources (both often taken out of context), as though any of those could substitute for reason, and many of them will eventually appeal to the unanswerable "God showed me" defense when their assertions are refuted.

Judging from their writings (speaking now of G. Riplinger and P. Ruckman, some of whose blather I've taken the recent trouble to read) and their speech (as heard in the context of Internet-published "debates"), they're at best unbelievably sloppy in their scholarship, or more likely, deceived and self-righteous, and at worst sometimes quite obviously dishonest.

Irrespective of whether one favors the Majority Text of the Greek NT or appreciates the KJV for its many merits, and no matter what one knows of the changing science of textual criticism, the KJVO position of "inerrancy" of the KJV, both as regards the underlying Greek and Hebrew (and Aramaic) texts, and in the English translation, is simply unsupportable.
As I've noted, it represents a type of magical thinking and a benign form of delusional system. Unfortunately, these folks' consciences seem to support them in their slander toward other believers, as they apparently believe they're "doing the work of God".
