Hello Brent, I notice that you have several times asked the question, "Which version is inerrant, infallible and inspired?" I would like to ask you the same question in a second. This is fair. If it isn't fair, then Jesus is not fair, because he often answered questions with questions.
Here is my question:
Which version of the Old Testament is inerrant, infallible and inspired- the Hebrew Masoretic text, or the Septuagint (LXX), or both, or neither of them?
You have a problem, you see, with your shiboleths that you insist on from others. In this instance, I know that you will say that the Masoretic Text is
inerrant, infallible, and inspired, and the LXX, (Septuagint) is not. That is a standard belief of all KJV only people.
You will also say that the gospel of Luke in the KJV and the Textus Receptus is inerrant, infallible, and inspired.
Well, you can't have that. It does not work, according to your own definitions and maxims and shiboleths.
In the gospel of Luke chapter 3, KJV, it says:
34Which was the son of Jacob,
which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham,
which was the son of Tharah, which was the son of Nachor,
35Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau,
which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber,
which was the son of Sala, 36Which was the son of CAINAN,
which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem,
which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,
37which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch,
which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel,
which was the son of CAINAN, 38which was the son of Enos,
which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam,
which was the son of God.
The man Cainan in vs. 36, the son of Arhphaxad, is not in the Masoretic text. Only in the Septuagint. Moreover, Luke uses the LXX spellings and pronunciations, rather than the Hebrew.
This is a major difference in genealogy, and they cannot both be inerrant. There is a huge difference in chronology as well: In the Masoretic Text genealogy, there are 390 years from the Flood to Abraham, counting age of fathers from age when begatting firstborns. In the LXX genealogy, there are 1,270 years. (This is not to say that either is an accurate gauge of the time lapse, see http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/572 )
You cannot have it both ways, that the KJV gospel of Luke is inerrant, and the Masoretic Text is inerrant.
By the way, in the Greek Text of Luke 3:36, where the extra CAINAN is found in the KJV and the TR, there are two important Greek manuscripts that omit it: Papyrus 75 and Codex D, as well as Old Latin manuscript d.
