Do any of you have any thoughts as to what the proper role of the Bible translator is/should be?
I have been recently studying the differences between formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence. Some say that formal/literal equivalence should be the standard i.e. just translate the words. Other say that a dynamic equivalent translation can give greater accuracy to the translation.
So any thoughts as to the role of the translator? Should he/she stay with translating only the words or are thought-for-thought translations justifiable?
