CHESAPEAKE, Ohio --
<A woman and three children were taken to a Huntington hospital Monday afternoon after a school bus flipped over along Ohio 243.
The Chesapeake Exempted Union School District bus was heading west on the state road about 2:45 p.m. when the bus right tires dropped off the road. Sgt. John Smith of the Ohio Highway Patrol said when the driver tried to pull the bus back onto the road, he overcorrected, sending the bus into a spin.
The bus went off the left side of the road, flipped over once and landed in a nearby field.
One of the children riding in the bus, 13-year-old Kenny Doss of Chesapeake, was ejected from the bus. Two other children -- 12-year-old Jamie Thompson and 13-year-old John Higginbotham, both of Chesapeake -- remained in the bus during the crash. All three were taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital by Southeastern Ohio Emergency Medical Services.
Doss was listed in good condition at the hospital Monday night. Higginbotham was in fair condition. Thompson was released after treatment.
Candy Roby, a 51-year-old aide who was riding on the bus, received chest injuries during the crash. She was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital by HealthNet helicopter and was in critical condition Monday night in the intensive care unit.
The driver of the bus, 56-year-old Larry D. Carpenter, was not injured.
Smith said the accident is still under investigation.>
The injured Mrs.Roby is my wife. All her R-side ribs, and R clavivle are fractured, and her R lung is injured. She is in serious but stable condition. Needless to say,I won't be back in these clubs for awhile.
My one request is that everyone remember her in their prayers.
Thanks,Cranston
