May I ask - what are the main criticisms against the KJB translators that exist? That is, if I were to argue against using the KJB, how would I attack the translators? Is there any documentation on the KJB translators having a doctrinal or ecclesiastical bias? What about immorality? What about drunkenness and various other "quaint" secrets? Posts: 3591 (11/28/2009 15:52:25) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	welcome, Pluto. i don't think it's a good idea to "argue against using the KJB" per se, except to expose those who make a false case, for its exclusive use, and then go on to ague against all other Bibles. that's what the snake did in the Garden, hissing "Yea, hath God said?" the KJB translators--hard for KJBOs to believe perhaps--were conceived in sin, committed sins of omission, commission, n ignorance during their storied lives, persecuted believers at times or sympathised with the Romish crowd, brown-nosed the stockinged so-Robert Carr-favouring king, etc. all this without even starting on their drunkenness and quaint secrets. but they were probably also jolly good fellas; so why demonise them? if u'd like to pursue the KJB-Onlyers rather than the KJB itself, which is the Word of God no less than the NIV or RSV, feel free to post a direct question in the KJBO forum of this board. The Word of God: A Guide to English Versions of the Bible . Atlanta: John Knox Press, 1982. Many English Bible versions are reviewed, but the best article in my view is Appendix 1: Zeal to Promote the Common Good (The King James Version) by Roger A. Bullard. Bullard suggests that the use of charity instead of love in 1 Corinthians 13 "might be the influence of the dogmatic Andrew Downes, who had come over from the Apocrypha committee and joined the group doing the Epistles" (p. 190). Also helpful is Appendix 2, A Comparison of Versions by Lloyd R. Bailey, Sr. Under "accuracy of translation," it ranks by percentage of correctness among ten versions, including the KJB, NASB, and NIV, on Isaiah 7:14. Posts: 59 (11/29/2009 17:15:06) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	AKCPluto --- To your question: There is a good booklet printed by the Trinitarian Bible Society titled: "The Learned Men". It is a biography (pamphlet size) of the men who made up the six companies appointed to bring forth a new translation which could be used in every Church/Chapel in England. The men were smart individuals who KNEW the original and old languages and had a great deal of scholarship and training. You can purchase the pamphlet from the T.B.S. or read other articles they have online concerning how we got our English Bible. Visit them at http://www.trinitarianbiblesociety.org/ some articles are for free or you can get them all for about $10.00 . They also have the "Translators to the Reader" in booklet form... check it out before accusing those translators of being in the same league/camp as Rip and Ruck and Gipp. They were trying to make a good translation better... Much like the Geneva Bible , but, without any notes...just the text of scripture. Much of the A.V. was borrowed from the fine work of William Tyndale... burned at the stake in Belgium for translating a Bible into the common tongue of the people of England. Read the info linked above, and actually start today reading the Psalms in the A.V./K.J. and listen to the melody and the reverance conveyed. Feel free to go after Goofy Gail Rip. and her pals, but attacking the A.V./K.J.V. is something that a Jesuit would do... Here is another title I found that may give you some insight: "Translating for King James" by Ward Allen Vanderbilt University Press Jan. '94 ISBN # 082651 2461 . Posts: 1376 (11/30/2009 09:40:54) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The AV translators were by leaps and bounds far more refined, intellectual, and observant than the modern KJO leadership crowd. The translators shouldn't be blamed for the dishonest representation of those that stand to make much moolah from the sale of their books and other materials. If the translators were alive today, they would soundly rebuke the likes of Gipp, Grady, Riplinger, et al. and possibly make a public spectacle of them.
